Visitor and local interest in the Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) Information Centre in Jabiru has grown since the unveiling of a new look back in June.

Visitor numbers for the third quarter period have more than tripled on the same time last year and there has been great local support for the updated centre. The number of tourists visiting the centre in the 2016 third quarter was 134 compared to 34 in 2015. Non-tourist visitors (i.e. residents and other stakeholders) have also risen from 34 to 62.

The centre serves as the point of call for members of the public who are seeking information about ERA, Ranger or Jabiluka. The ERA Community Relations team is also based there.

Popular questions asked by tourists after they have read the information wall include what countries does ERA export to, what is the material used for, how much radiation are ERA people and the public exposed to, what is yellowcake, what will happen to the hole in ground and ERA staff after the mine closes, and the ever popular question is can they do a tour of the mine. The centre also gets other non-mining queries from tourists travelling through the Northern Territory including where the Bowali Centre is, where to book tours to see the Kakadu National Park, where the BP service station or how to get to Ubirr.

The main feature of the June revamp was the addition of a wall to ceiling timeline which outlines the history of ERA and information about the activities surrounding water management, processing and rehabilitation.
