Local community learns fire safety skills
On 12 December, the Energy Resources of Australia Emergency Services Team with assistance from Jabiru Fire Service and Nationally Accredited training provider Fire and Safety Australia, had the opportunity to provide fire extinguisher training to some local Jabiru school students as part of our community support program.
This training was conducted at Jabiru fire station with the assistance of Mike Martin (NTFRS) and Peter Williams (Department of Education). The students were taught the basic principles of fire response and how to extinguish this in the unfortunate event of an emergency.
The training was run as a nationally recognised course with all students receiving a certificate upon completion. The students were very involved with the training and were able to relate this back to looking after their families and work environment.
For many of the students this would have been their first nationally recognised training session they had attended and will be a kick-start to their careers. Most of the students were looking to start moving into the workforce as Park Rangers.
Overall, we were able to qualify five students with the PUAWER008B Confine Small Workplace Emergencies qualification.
This was a great opportunity and moving forward into the New Year we hope to work closely with the community of Jabiru and deliver more community events like this session.
