Raising awareness of mental health issues by asking RUOK?

14 Sept 2017

On Thursday 14 September ERA took time to check in with our colleagues to ask the question R U OK?

The RUOK national initiative is a suicide prevention charity aimed at inspiring Australian’s to have regular, meaningful conversations every day of the year to help anyone struggling with life.

Across our Ranger mine site and our Darwin office, our crews took part in pre-start discussions, lunch events and face-to-face conversations to raise awareness of mental health issues and also talk about the free support available to crews, their families and friends every day of the year.

Lesley Bryce, ERA General Manager Operations said it was all about mates looking after mates.

"It’s important to connect with others and to remember that we’ve all got what it takes to ask, “are you ok?” and support those struggling with life," Ms Bryce said.

ERA runs a number of mental health first aid awareness workshops for staff during the year and also provides free access to counselling and support services through the employee assistance programme.
